The Artifacts Analyzer: A Simple Tool for Computer-Assisted Analysis of Glyptic and Other Artifacts

Eythan Levy (University of Bern)

Friday, 6 October | 3:00–3:30 pm

We will present the Artifacts Analyzer, a simple tool for computer-assisted analysis of archaeological  artifacts. The tool automatically analyses any CSV file containing Boolean and categorical descriptors of artifacts, and outputs a set of correlations expressed in natural language. It can also be used to discover a set of contrasting characteristics differentiating two sets of artifacts.

The Artifacts Analyzer is a Python program, available on Github (https://github.com/Eythan31/Artifacts-Analyzer), both as a script and as a standalone executable with a graphical user interface. We will illustrate the use of the Artifacts Analyzer using a case study related to Iron Age inscribed Hebrew seals.
